Ready For The Track With The 2021 Toyota GR Supra

If you’re looking for a new ride that promises to be a blast to drive, but also boasts a ton of sporty personality, then the 2021 Toyota GR Supra may be all that you’re looking for and more. With its all-new turbocharged engine–available in inline four-cylinder or inline 6-cylinder–as well as other notable improvements, you’ll see exactly how the newly designed GR Supra clearly outshines its 2020 predecessor through the engine, transmission, and performance enhancements.

New and Improved

Toyota re-introduced Supra only a year ago in 2020, but since then Toyota has turned up the style and horsepower with some notable changes to the 2021 GR model. Its new turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6 dials up the horsepower from 335 to 382, and to appeal to even larger audiences, Toyota has also added a four-cylinder model to the lineup, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-4 that makes 255 horsepower. Also newly added to the Supra lineup is the optional A19 Edition that can be added to the 3.0 Supra trim package. This available option adds a host of appearance items to the interior and exterior to differentiate it from the regular Supra models, and it comes standard with the six-cylinder engine. If tech and infotainment appeal to you, you’ll also love that the standard 6.5” infotainment screen from the 2020 model has been replaced with the 8.8” screen standard across the lineup.

The Ins and Outs

To accent the Supra’s race-inspired frame, some added style features include a rear black carbon fibre lip spoiler, matte black wheels (standard 18” or available 19" forged-aluminum twin-spokes), a unique cat-black exhaust that matches the specific performance characteristics of the engine while also giving your Supra a unique sound, full LED headlights with adaptive lighting and iconic rear taillights, and carbon fiber mirror caps. You can further customize your exterior style with the choice of 8 paint colours, depending on the trim option you opt for. The race-inspired style also extends to the interior cabin where you’ll find a driver focused cockpit, a leather wrapped sport steering wheel with steering mounted paddle shifters, a double bubble roof, available black Alcantara leather-trimmed interior with blue contrast, available heads up display, and available wireless charging station. You won’t have to worry about cargo in this compact vehicle because the cargo area, boasting 10 cubic feet of storage space and accessed through the hatchback is roomy enough for all your travel, and city transportation needs.

Performance

Whether you opt for the 2.0 or 3.0 model, or even the added A19 Edition, you’ll find that an eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the fleet, and that all models are offered only with rear-wheel drive. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, also improves heat management. The greatly revised engine produces higher torque at higher rpm and retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness. Toyota projects 0-96 km/h in 5.0 seconds for the Supra, which makes it Toyota’s second quickest vehicle in the lineup. Also enhancing the Supra’s fun to drive personality is accurate steering that is nicely weighted and direct. Other upgrades have also been made for better roll resistance and enhanced cornering stability, as well as tweaks to the Adaptive Variable Suspension and Vehicle Stability Control systems.

Infotainment and Safety

A Digital gauge and 8.8” infotainment screen is standard across the line up, and you can also opt for Qi compatible wireless charging, Apple CarPlay connectivity, integrated navigation, and Toyota Supra connect–with advanced standard technology features such as automatic emergency call, real-time traffic information, roadside assistance, and concierge service. If you’re looking to up your infotainment experience, the 12-speaker JBL audio system is optional, but the standard 10-speaker audio system will also not disappoint. The GR Supra also offers a host of driver assistance features as standard across the Supra lineup, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam headlamps. Addition features you can opt for via the Driver Assistance package include:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring
